Lots of words below.

I've officially been here for a week and SO MUCH has happened! Right now we are in the middle of our orientation week and I feel like I'm back at Interlochen again, except there is air conditioning!

I left Portland on the 17th at noon, said goodbye to my wonderful parents, cried, laughed, got my protein powder through security without anyone thinking it was cocaine and got on a plane to dallas fort worth. Upon landing, I immediately broke my flip flop... ( why did I think flip flops were good traveling shoes?) I shuffled around the airport for about 30 min looking for flip-flops, shoes, someone to carry me around, anything. I ended up with a pair of fuzzy purple slippers. Good enough.

On the 9 hour flight to London I sat next to an older lady named Vita. She was on her last "big adventure" as her health was going to keep her from traveling in the future. It was just her and her grand son going to adventure through Norway. She had a purse that was made form specially material so no one could steal your credit card information. We had at least a 20 min conversation about it and then I passed out for 6 hours. (sleeping those 6 hours on the plane were curtail to my "being able to stand up and function" capabilities for the rest of the week. )

Also on the plane was Joe, one of my classmates. I waved at him when he got on the flight but didn't actually meet him till I got off the plane. Joe & our classmate Matt, who came to meet us, are rock stars and I would not have made it without them in the hours after landing.

Joe & Matt a.k.a THE BEST!

Above are Joe and Matt. Joe and Matt saved my life and I love them forever and ever. Between the three of us we took my 200 plus pounds of luggage and Joe's 3 suitcases on a 2 hour adventure through the tube. This adventure included many flights of stairs, escalators, grumpy people, and a upward climb when we finally reached the Debden station where we are now living. (Not in the station. I have a house. Don't worry.)
We contacted Katie and she helped us the rest of the way with our stuff.

Katie is also a Rock Star!
I could not move into my flat (Fancy english word!) till the 21st so Katie was so lovely to let me stay with her. She let me sleep in the bed for 3 nights wile she slept on the floor, i did try to switch with her but she wouldn't have it... because she's wonderful! Katie is living with a family and they are amazing. The land lady Jan is a rock star! (She repelled off a building, for charity, last week! Plus she has my favorite kind of dog, a bulldog, named Bells.)

That first day Katie kept me up till 11 at night, to help my jet lag. My communication skills were.... not so good at this point. I was SO tired. We met up with some people from our program at the pub down the street and I was reduced to a lot of tired smiling and non sensical comments till I gave up and went to sleep. I woke up at 5:30 in the morning because of the time difference and saw the sun come up. It was worth it to be up and see that. New life, new friends, new beginning and there was the first sun rise of my time here. Thankfully I did fall back to sleep, if I hadn't fallen back asleep I probably wold not feel as warm and fuzzy about seeing the sun rise.

On my second day Katie and I went to the Tower of London! I saw way too much and it would take way to long to tell you all about it so I have one comment and then lots of pictures!

Comment:
Awful, awful, AWFUL, things happened at the Tower of London. People were hung, drawn and quartered on the regular for being traitors. A persons religious beliefs were atop the endless list of things that a person could be convicted of as a traitor. Being in the place where so many men and women were given the chance to renounce their God and live or stand on their beliefs and die ,was chilling. It was the most powerful realization, for my life, of how fortunate we are in America to have the freedoms we have to say and believe what we choose, what ever that may be. Alot of What happened in the tower led to us having these freedoms... 'Merica.

Bonus Comment:
I defy anyone to not be amazed by the Crown Jewels, they are incredible!
On Friday one group of students held a potluck dinner at their apartment for everyone who was here already. What did I learn? My classmates are cooler than your classmates. It's just a fact. I'm surrounded by people who have fought to be here and are super nice, caring and FUN to boot. I couldn't be in a more amazing situation. I'm so excited every day.

On Saturday I got to move into my apartment!!! Jenny King is my roommate and we get along swimmingly. Our place is rockin' as well. Beautiful back garden and everything is new and clean and I have two closets! Plus being a 3-5 min walk away from both the school and the train station is superbly convenient.
I took one day to un pack and settle in to the place and then on sunday I went with Jamie to "The Brick Lane Market" in London. It's a really amazing street fair in a super cool part of town with loads of graffiti everywhere, vintage shops and lots of food venders! It was a little big of an adventure to get there and back because the trains were down but it was nice to see the city and I road a double decker bus so that was awesome!

At one point during the week I needed to get BandAids. I asked a gentleman at the store "where are the Band Aids?" his response "What? What's that?" "Oh... well they are for wounds, you put them over wounds.... they are sticky?" Nothing, so he sent me to someone else and I repeated the latter. Her response "Oooh! You mean pasties!?" ... Band Aids are called Pasties here... hilarious.

LOVE YOU ALL!

So I have been bad and haven't finished editing my new vlog to post but I promise from the bottom of my heart it will be up this week.

I have had SO MUCH happen since I moved here over Labor Day weekend. So I'm going to give everyone a quick update till I get my new vlog up :)

So since we last talked I was on my way to NYC. Stephanie and I drove from Ohio to NYC and crashed at my aunts. The next morning when we woke up we went to wear the rental car was and... it was gone... the moment when i was standing in the place my car had been and looking at a dark blue car and not a burgundy on was the moment wear I either freaked out or took a deep breath, and thanks to Steph's levelheadedness the deep breath was taken and we proceeded to retrieve my car from the impound... now that's part of the NYC tour they don't normally show you. After that we met up with my love love Paola and ran around the city. We went to China Town and had Chinese food, went Central park and took in the green space and walked around Time Square.

Then I began in on my internship for fashion week... it was a crazy, crazy adventure but I met some friends and had an amazing time!! Along with getting to wear a really amazing Nicholas to the show made by the designer who did the jewelry for the show Micha Kuechenhoff.

Now I'm working as a hostess at an awesome Italian place in the Theatre District and I love it!!!

I'm getting ready to move into a new apartment on the upper east side and starting to audition for everything I can.

At this moment I'm over caffeinated and using the free wireless in Starbucks to make lists of auditions and to catch up on my shows oh HULU :)

Vlog of my adventures soon to come!!
The girl writes music, acoustic and electric, and takes some really beautiful, truthful photographs. Her blog is called Light Body Eye. She uses film for all of her photo's and they are some of the most uniquely composed and executed pictures I've ever seen. (Not to mention this girl is my soul mate) My favorite set of photo's is a series called persephone maiden it was inspired by the Greek myth of Persephone, maiden of the Spring and Queen of the Underworld.
This is my favorite from that series. Enjoy!!

This is my friend Jo...the other JoJo as it may be :) Joanna Eberts is an illustration major at RIT, who is both incredibly sweet, and a mettle head. Her art spans that same range from fun and cute to classic beauty and trow in a few demon horses and a zombie lady and you have some really incredible art work.

She drew this of me, my brother, my friend Paola, and her at the Mat and Kim / Spoon concert we went to this summer. We had an amazing time!! Check out her blog!
JoJoUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1742512578673625310.post-31486660407905227152010-08-17T10:30:00.000-07:002010-08-17T10:30:01.704-07:00So here is the deal...Life is good!I officially have the most baller internship of all time!! I'm working for the amazingly talented new couture designer Nicholas Lindsey helping with PR for NYC fashion week. The majority of my job is sending e-mails and finding contact information to invite people to his show which is admittedly a little tedious but I'm a nerd and I love doing it.

Part of the deal is that I'm moving to NYC in September!! I wanted to do this anyways but this has given me the extra push to jump in with both feet. Now all I need to do is pack... oh crap... packing!!! I have roughly 15 days to pack!!!! I have no idea what to take with me or how much! Right now I have 3 categories of things I need.
1: Things for Musical Theatre
2: Things for PR
3: Life things

I've got 1 and 2 basically figured out but "life things" get's a little tricky... do I need plates? What about my pink lawn flamingo... I like him so much... is there room for him? If given the choice between plates and the lawn flamingo would choosing the flamingo be rational? Probably...I guess I'll figure it out eventually.

And by October I might need a room mate... but I'll worry about that later. I've got time right?... right?.... right!

Anyone have advice on what's important to bring with me?

Cheers!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1742512578673625310.post-76405775704009721032010-04-19T14:37:00.000-07:002010-04-19T14:38:09.306-07:00Identity CrisisI am two people. Not in a United States of Tara kind of way but in a how do I market myself kind of way.
What made me think of this is ? Graduation. I'm graduating soon and for the first time I don't know what I'm doing next year. It's all up in the air. The only thing I know is that I'm planing to move to NYC in september and who knows, that could change if I get some kind of awesome job before then... okay back on topic. I'm graduating and I want a job specifically as an actress. I am also a PR major and would like to use my PR degree form one of the 13 accredited programs in the country some how and get a survival job doing that too.

Here in lies the rub, someone hears that you're striving to be an actor and they figure you aren't serious about having a "regular" job and that you aren't going to be at any job for long.

then in the acting world the saying is "if you can see yourself doing anything else do that". SO you tell a casting director that you do PR (or what ever) as well then they don't think you are serious... it's a circle of doom!!! so in the social media realm what am I suppose to do? How do I market myself? Do I have a web-cite that says JOJO GINN for PR click here for acting click here or do I go as Joanna in the PR world and as JoJo in the acting world and have two brands, then really give myself an identity crisis... or is it cool to be doing both things? any advice my social networking friends? what oh what shal I do... I've exhausted myself typing about this...

Cheers,
Alas my life is slowing down in a crazy kind of way, I'm graduating in 4 weeks!!! It's a scary/exciting time. My plan is to work this summer as much as I can them move to NYC to pursue the dream of being an actress and a social media guru... it's fine I'll make it work:)

On a completely different note I've been thinking about crafting lately. (Stop judging right now! I like crafts, they make me happy...I said stop it... thanks) and I wanted to share the gift that I made my mom for christmas with you. I got the idea of making these pumpkin lights from Not So Idle Hands and then was inspired to make snow men!!! (Halloween and Christmas are my mom's favorite holidays, and mine too!) Plus this gift idea is potentially a "green" project if you you use old jars, candle holders and other glass vessels that are sitting around your house... maybe a vase...I digress... so here are my little creations!!
I think I'm back!! i have so much to talk about finally!! At this very moment I'm "modge podging" if that's a real word. I got some inspiration form an awesome blog called "Modge Podge Rocks" it's an awesome blog to check out very crafty and fun!! She posted a project from another blog that i also love and gave me the idea called " Not So Idle Hands ". Check both of them out for some awesome inspiration. back in halloween for a rockin gift for my mom, it's Halloween and Christmas themed, her ( and my) favorite holidays! I don't want to put up any pictures of my awesome gifts till they are done.

On another note, i;m making my room mates and friends recycled gifts!! (No that doesn't mean re-gifting)'m really pumped about this one. My family and I went to Findlay today to eat dinner with some friends at olive garden then to go see AVATAR afterwards. Wile I was walking to the bathroom at "O.G." I saw all of these wine bottles and had a genius plan ( well I think it's good at least) I successfully got OG to give me 5 wine bottles and I'm making them into lights!! woot woot!! It's either going to be amazing... or a total disaster. I'm going to be going to other restaurants tomorrow to see what I can get from them, tis the season to be drinking wine... that's how the saying goes right? I'll put my pictures of my masterpieces up in a wile. Is anyone else recycling things to give to their friends and family this year? let me know what you are up to!! I've got to go because my cat is slowly destroying all of the tissue paper I'm using for my gifts.
It was supposedly amazing and the biggest one of our lifetimes... I didn't see it. I was outside at 3:30, I was looking at the sky, I had my glasses on, I got as far away from the city lights as I could... nothing, not even a fast moving plane. I was so upset about this when I finally went to bed. Then I come to class today and one of my classmates says " Wasn't the meteor shower awesome last night"... I give up... I just give up.

I followed Women's Wear Daily , a fashion magazine, and Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids.
Both used it in different ways. Women's Wear Daily Updated extremely often, probably once every hour. They always tweeted things fashion related but mostly included links to articles on the magazines cite. I thought they updated too often for my liking, it cluttered up my twitter feed and I wasn't interested in a third of the tweets. Regardless I did look at their cit numerous times so I think they way they used twitter was effective because people who don't have something like twitterriffic will still see tweets from them when they randomly check twitter.
Broadway cares is a very wonderful organization but they still have some work to do with twitter. It all boils down to the fact that they don't update often enough or they clump all of their tweets within a couple hours of time . Though when they do update it is meaningful and not updating for the sake of updating. Unfortunately their tweets get lost in the shuffle. Most recently they have been tweeting about the Bernadette Peters charity concert. One thing that they do that i think is WONDERFUL is that anytime someone twitters about them, they respond and say thank you for there support. A couple weeks ago I tweeted something about ONU raising money for the organization and they responded within 20 min of me tweeting it and it seemed like they actually had listened to my pod-cast about them. That made me feel really good about supporting them because they were thankful for my support and my efforts will not go un-noticed.

Twitter is so cool... and it's an amazing way to get your organization noticed if you do it right.
This should be cool... um what is this... I don't have time for this and I don't understand how this is useful." This was my though process when twitter lists came out. So I decided I need to figure out what this list thing is and why on earth I, or anyone else should use the lists. I turned to Mashable.com because they cover social media so well.
Why use lists?
It's basically a way to organize all of the people you are following. For instance say you want a laugh, you can make a list for all the funny Tweeps you follow and then you can look at all the funny Tweeps at once when you want to.

Another function is to recommend Tweeps for people to follow and vice versa. This opens up the twitter-sphere and will hopefully help people find better people to follow.

When you follow a list you are not following everyone on the list, this keeps your twitter feed less cluttered .

So how do you make a list?

1. Log on to twitter.
2. Click the "New List" link below the search bar.
3. Name list, make it private or public, click create list.
4. start adding people to your list.

Happy list making everyone, check out the Mashable article about lists,
It was really intense but they found a way to survive.
Over the last week a group of students at ONU played Humans Vs. Zombies (HvZ). The game is essentially a intense version of Nerf gun tag wear if you get tagged you are a zombie and humans fend off the zombies with Nerf guns. If there are any humans left by the end of the last day of the game then the humans win, if the zombies infect all the humans the zombies win.
I was curious about the game so I looked it up on google and found out that it gained popularity all over the world because of SOCIAL MEDIA!!! That's right folks when the first game of HvZ was played in 2005 at Goucher College students posted pictures on flicker and put videos on YouTube and the popularity of the game exploded. Groucher College requires all of it's student to study abroad so the game spread globally because of that.
it seems kind of silly, 20 year olds running around with Nerf guns pretending to be part of a zombie apocalypse...Okay, maybe very silly... but at the very least it keeps college students out of trouble and gives them something to do, especially on a small campus.
For more information about the game check out the cite , if you want to play keep your eyes and ears open for the next game in the spring.
When I was young my mom would make my costumes for my brother and I. I was a bunny one year, bell form beauty and the beast and jasmine from Aladdin, those are the three I can think of off the top of my head right now.

My family is the real reason why I love Halloween. Every year we set up the great pumpkin. My grandfather started this tradition and my father has carried the tradition on. Essentially we build a scarecrow in our front yard with a pumpkin for a head. Then we put a baby monitor in it’s chest and a speaker as well. When the little kids walk up to our door my dad will say hi to them through the speaker in the great pumpkins chest and when they say something back to him he can hear through the baby monitor. It’s one of the best traditions ever. My favorite memory of the great pumpkin was a few years ago a little girl was dressed up as a witch, the great pumpkin said “ well aren’t you a cute little witch” and the girl continued toward our front door and got her candy, wile she was walking away we hared her say to he mother “ he called me a witch” she sounded offended, it was extremely cute.

Another reason why this Halloween was awesome; we ate four bags of candy yesterday...yumm...
More than once we both used this phrase “ it wasn’t FaceBook official or anything.” During this conversation it was eye opening to think about how much social media is involved in many of my relationships romantic and non romantic.

When I was interested in my now boyfriend we would talk in person a lot but we would also communicate through FaceBook and AIM. Social media was part of the courtship process in our relationship. Before we started dating I was in a joke relationship with one of my guy friends, we were “married” on face book. So when my boyfriend and I stated dating I didn’t change my status and he changed his to in a relationship. Then one day a friend of mine ran up to me and said “ why did you and your boyfriend break up?” Utterly confused I asked her to explain why she thought we had broken up, Her response “ because his FaceBook status says single” Needless to say this ended in a small fight about how he couldn’t just broadcast to the world that he was single if we were dating. It’s really silly to think about but it did mean something to me and other people what his status was.

I have a relationship with one friend from when I lived in Canada that is completely dependent on Instant Messaging, FaceBook and e-mail. He was one of my bet friends growing up and we lost contact after I moved to Ohio. At least 11 years later we reconnected via face book and Instant Messaging. If it were not for these social media outlets the two of us would not be friends. We have been able to visit and keep a friendship afloat through this communication even though the two of us live in different countries.

I’m beating a dead horse but social media has changed the way we relate to each other and has changed how we define those relationships. After all if we are not friends on FaceBook…how good can our friendship really be?
I remember being totally obsessed with Numa Numa. My friends and I learned the song and would dance around at school, our houses and in public. I can still sing most of the words to the song even though I don’t know what they mean. And then it hit me…we didn’t even have YouTube till 2005… I survived the majority of my high school career without YouTube. How did manage that? At this very minute I am watching "Cage The Elephant" songs on YouTube wile I am writing this post. I probably got a lot more done back then but I’m still very happy to have it now.

This week I did something that was more nerve racking than anything I have ever did before. I performed a sonnet and a monologue with the rest of my class in the lobby in front of the Macintosh cafeteria. That’s right on Friday 23, 2009 we shared the bards words with passers by. In the end it was extremely fun and there are going to be more public displays of theatre through out the rest of the year as part of the new ONU Theatre Company ,and this public performance was a good way to kick it off. I performed sonnet 10 and a Desdemona monologue from Othello. Look for our story in the Northern Review and on Cable3.
I will start with Facebook. A wile ago my friends and I began to notice that the ads on Facebook seemed applicable to our interests. Then we noticed the tie between our interests that we had listed on our profile pages and the ads popping up.

These are some screen shots of what I’m talking about.

Since I have certain things listed, like U2 being a band that I like I get ads on Facebook about U2, scrap booking, film making, the list goes on and on. And that’s ok with me. I volunteered that information and I’m sure that there is something in the terms of service that I agreed to that say they can do that. What really freaked me out was this.

It may not seem like much but it did me in. How does YouTube know that I know this person. I’ve deduced that we are both subscribed to a couple of the same YouTube channels of friends from school. Still it is very big brother of YouTube to know who I know… they already know what I watch often and that freaks me out a bit too. What do you think folks, have we given the social networks too much information about ourselves or not.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1742512578673625310.post-65786495157365082722009-10-28T09:01:00.000-07:002009-10-28T09:25:37.200-07:00That’s so last year
This week when I was doing my reading for class I all of a sudden felt like a huge snob. I thought to my self “this book was published in 2007, it’s not accurate anymore, how am I suppose to read this and take it seriously when the information will be even more different next year and then the next year.” In true millennial form I also wondered why there wasn’t a newer version of the book out yet because I want it now! After I had my moment of millennial craziness I calmed down and then got freaked out all over again. How is anything I learn going to help me in life if it’s changing so much, I’ll be 24 and younger kids won’t think I’m cool because I don’t know how to most effectively use my Blackberry… or even worse that I’m so old I have a blackberry which is so old fashioned to them… is there anyway to win when the world of technology is moving so quickly? Then I heard @alisaagozzino ‘s voice in my head “ it’s all about building the relationships.” We hear this a lot in our social media class. Even though I won’t be able to keep up with the youngins and their newfangled technologies as long as I keep to the basics everything should be fine.
